Support: Clubs

Constitution & Insurance

Every sports clubs at some stage needs assistance in starting a new project or buying new equipment or even building their own facility. There is a great deal of funding information available and some of it will be summarised here.

Every 3 months we will release an updated Handy Guide to Funding. It will outline new schemes, existing schemes, fundraising ideas and tips on how to successfully apply for funding, and a new section on attracting sponsorship.

We can also provide letters of support for projects but we must be aware of your project, know who you are applying to and we are happy to discuss in further detail and assist where possible.

To find out more contact Arran Coggan, Development Manager (Participation), Tel 07525 233 592 or by email.

Clubs may also wish to consider Community Amateur Sports Club status for tax and other financial benefits. You are advised to take appropriate professional advice where required.

Sportivate is a Sport England £32 million Lottery programme that gives 11-25* year olds access to six-week courses in a range of sports including archery (* In April 2013 the age band was lowered to 11 yr olds).

Similar to Sport Unlimited, funding is available for clubs to deliver these six-week courses. Eligible funding includes facility hire, coaches and equipment. Sportivate is being delivered by the network of 49 county sports partnerships (CSPs), working with local clubs and providers. To find out more about Sportivate in your area, click here to find the relevant CSP.

Inspired Facilities

Afunding opportunity is available from Sport England to help clubs update facilities. The new programme is called Inspired Facilities.

It is part of Places People Play, Sport England's programme to deliver a London 2012 legacy of increased mass participation in sport. Tired, worn out, old facilities make it harder for people to start or keep doing sport. They can also be more expensive to run and difficult to maintain.

Inspired Facilities is focused on making it easier for local community and volunteer groups to improve and refurbish sports clubs or transform non-sporting venues into modern grassroots sport facilities.

The Inspired Facilities fund could help you refurbish or upgrade your sports facility; or convert an existing building into a venue suitable for sport and accessible to the whole community.

To qualify for a grant you will need to:

  • Show how your project will keep and, ideally, attract more people to sport
  • Demonstrate that it is needed and wanted by the local community
  • Explain how it will cover its running costs and remain open for sporting use for years to come

In particular, Sport England are looking for projects or organisations across the country that:

  • Have not previously received an individual sports Lottery grant worth £10,000 or more
  • Offer local opportunities to people who do not currently play sport, or
  • Are the only public sports facility in the local community

Sport England have tried to make applying for an Inspired Facilities grant as straightforward as possible, with no specialist knowledge required.
